Through the years with the Texas Dental Association, I have had the opportunity to enter state wide photography contests. Every year I have won several awards including the Grand prize for “Best Texas Scenic.” I have also been featured in several magazines in the last few years.
These include “RDH” (the main Nation wide Dental Hygiene Journal) in September 2004 and June 2006. In February 2006 the “San Antonio Woman” featured me in an article promoting “Go Red for Women” with the American Heart Association. I had the opportunity to speak at a City Counsel Meeting and address the Mayor to kick off the Go Red campaign. The February 2007 issue of “Scene in SA Monthly” magazine recognized me as a “Maverick” in San Antonio for “blazing new paths” with my photography.
Some awards in life don’t come in a plaque or ribbon form. They can’t be displayed on the wall or on a shelf, but only in the heart. Many of my rewards come from the many donations I have been give to various local charities. It is fun for me to see how my seed blooms into the harvest for others. My photo gifts are a way of creating scholarships for children, helping the underprivileged, funding medical research, and benefiting the community. One of my latest auction donations benefited the Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department in their goal to raise money for the new firehouse. My semi-famous “Tongue & Cheek” photo of the buffalo sold for $1,850.00!!! It was the hit of the night at the O’Brien’s Restaurant in Bergheim. The photo will be available in the Casa del Parque-Galeria in Spring Branch , Tx . starting February 2008.
